A few of the must-haves for a cook’s pantry that arrived this week:

Les Mouettes d'Arvor MackerelLes Mouettes d’Arvor Mackerel $8.99    Les Mouettes d’Arvor has been a fish cannery in Brittany since 1959 and is now the last remaining seafood cannery in the town of Concarneau. These mackerels are fished from the North Sea and the English Channel, cut into filets, and packed with aromatic herbs and condiments. Owner Jacques Gonidec likes to do things the old-fashioned way, which means the process is all done by hand. Enjoy these delicious filets on toasts, salads, in sandwiches or straight out of the tin! Try from a range of flavors including filets in mustard sauce, lemon and basil, and Muscadet with spices.

Aarewasser CheeseNew cheese: Aarewasser! $21.99/lb   Aarewasser owes its name to the pure spring water of the Aare River in Switzerland, which is used to wash the cheese during the production process. Made with raw cow’s milk, this washed rind cheese is aged three months and lends itself well to melting. Smooth and supple in texture, Aarewasser has a creamy, mild flavor with notes of grass and mushroom. Try this in sandwiches or in your next fondue!

Cepa Vieja vinegarCepa Vieja Reserva sherry vinegar is back in stock. From a 25-year-old solera, this vinegar has an amazing depth and complexity.   Made from a dry sherry, this vinegar is bright with a richness and hint of smoke.  One of our favorite sherry vinegars!

Fermin LomoFermin Lomo, sliced to order.   The craft of sausage and charcuterie making is truly undergoing a renaissance, and we’re proud to offer as many extraordinary choices as our meat cases can hold.  This week we added Fermin lomo to our selection.  Made in Spain from the indigenous Serrano pig, it’s an entire pork tenderloin dry cured with pimenton, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil.  Lean and delicious, serve this on a mixed charcuterie plate or make a sandwich.

White chocolate details show on the finish, accented by hints of pepper.”   All for $8.99.

Camins de Priorat2016 Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat (Regularly $22.99, now $16.99)   Winemaker Alvaro Palacios is one of the “five pioneers” that rediscovered the old, abandoned vineyards of Priorat and rocked the wine world with these intensely mineral, full-bodied red wines.  Camins del Priorat is the introductory wine made from younger vines and is a blend of 40% Garnacha, 30% Samso, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, aged eight months in oak.  “A firm and silky red with lots of bright blue fruits and violet flower character. Medium body. Vivid finish. Excellent entry level Priorat.”  91 points James Suckling
