Fourme d’Ambert $19.99/lb
A gorgeous blue cheese made from raw cow’s milk in the Auvergne region of France. This mild blue is less spicy than its cousin, Roquefort, with flavors of sweet cream and mushroom. Its silky, melt-in-your-mouth interior is complimented with bursts of sharp, saltiness from its mold marbling. Fourme d’Ambert’s crowd-pleasing flavor and unique cylindrical shape make it a star on cheese plates! Pair with nuts and dried fruits.
High scoring, sensibly priced wines from Domaine Lafage:
2015 Domaine Lafage Bastide Miraflors Vielles Vignes, Côtes Catalanes ($13.99) “This wine is almost too good to be true. 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache aged in concrete tanks and demi-muids. It’s a ripe, sexy, heady beauty that exhibits a deep, purple color as well as killer notes of smoked meats, chocolate, blackberry and black raspberries. Deep, unctuous, open knit and layered, it continues to change in the glass, has a seamless and silky profile, and not a hard edge to be found. It’s a sensational value that needs to be tasted to be believed.” 94 points Wine Advocate
2015 Domaine Lafage Tessellae Carignan Vielles Vignes, Côtes Catalanes ($13.99) “A sensational value the readers should snatch up is the 2015 IGP Cotes Catalanes Tessellae Carignan Vieilles Vignes! This full-bodied, ripe, sexy red has incredible purity of fruit, no hard edges and classic notes of blackberries, plums, spice and pepper. It’s a screaming deal.” 92 points Wine Advocate
