Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers toasted the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a glass of Madeira. As tomorrow is Independence Day and promises to be a typical chilly Seattle evening, why not celebrate history and also feel a bit warmer during the firework display by sipping a glass of Madeira? We’ve just brought in two new Madeiras from the house of Belem that are delicious and value priced. Besides these introductory Madeiras, our offering includes many fine and well-aged bottles of single varietal wines, including a 1920 Blandy’s Bual. Come in and we’ll give you a recommendation to match your budget!

Grower Champagne pre-order opportunity- ORDER DEADLINE IS JULY 9.
We are big fans of importer Terry Theise’s grower-producer champagnes. These small producers are vignerons and winemakers, owning the land and making Champagne from their own fruit, reflecting the terroir and harvest. (The well-known large Champagne houses indisputably make some amazing Champagne, albeit with purchased grapes and a house style that doesn’t change much from year to year). Terry Theise is offering us discounted prices on his grower-producer Champagnes for orders placed by July 9. Get a great price for holiday wines! Simply reply to this e-mail or call the shop (206.682.0679) with your order and credit card information to guarantee the purchase. The wines will arrive mid-October and the credit card will be charged upon the Champagne’s arrival. These are fantastic prices, no further discounts apply.
L. Aubry Fils is one of our favorite producers. Somewhat under the radar, their prices are moderate and their Champagne hitts the sweet spot. The basic L. Aubry Fils NV Brut delivered memorable toasty and bright complexity on a New Year’s Eve a few years ago.

Vilmart & Cie “Grand Cellier” Brut NV, 750 ml $90.00 regular price, $72.00 preorder 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir, barrel aged. Elegant and precise, a Champagne to celebrate with.
Marc Hébrart ‘Mes Favorites’ 1er Cru, Brut, N.V.*** Terry Thiese rates this as one of the greatest Champagnes of the offering. 75% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay from old vines. It’s from his favorite parcels in Mareuil—and is intended as a tribute to its terroir. It has a truly noble Pinot Noir fragrance, leading to an utter masterpiece of weightless concentration, as huge and yet as penetrable as a cumulous cloud. Mareuil is clearly great but it’s also somewhat inscrutable; it has some of the malt of Aÿ, some Mirabelle confiture, almost gingery spice and top notes of chalk. This wine has great, gossamer opulence. $80.00 regular price, $64.00 preorder
