Paris-Madrid Grocery remains open regular hours, 7 days per week for in-person shopping. Our hours are Monday-Saturday 10 AM – 6 PM and Sundays, 11 AM – 5 PM. If shopping inside the store, please wear a mask as per the recent state mandate to minimize the spread of Covid-19. The City of Seattle will begin charging for parking again beginning July 13, but it’s thankfully only $.50 per hour. Our designated 15-minute free pickup and load zone in front of our store is still in effect to assist in quick stops and on-line order curbside pick ups. To place an online order, visit parismadridgrocery.com and from the home page, click on the orange Order & Pick Up button. A product list will pop up and you can place an order and designate a pickup day and time. We will call you for credit card details when we receive the order and you’re set! la Fête Nationale or Bastille Day is next Tuesday, July 14. On this day in 1789, Parisians stormed the Bastille prison-fortress, liberating 7 prisoners along with a cache of munitions and turned the tide of the French Revolution. In France, this national holiday is usually celebrated much like the U.S.A.’s 4th of July, with firework displays, concerts, and parades. In between the festivities, families and friends gather for picnics, Champagne and games of pétanques. Although it’s not possible to be in France right now, it’s still feasible to gather up an exquisite French picnic from Paris-Madrid Grocery and celebrate as if you are in France.
Here are some of our favorite picnic foods, or please ask us for help to put together something extra special!
A serving of pâté campagne or duck mousse with cornichons and Dijon mustard on a baguette
A charcuterie assortment including sliced French-style Sauccison Sec and Rosette de Lyon
A bottle of French champagne such as Aubry Brut, served with a luscious assortment of tinned mackerel or sardines from Brittany
An mix of classic French cheeses including Brie, Roquefort, Pont-L’Eveque or Arpea de Brebis from France’s Basque region
For dessert, an array of French macarons (available in our freezer). Made in France and frozen, they thaw out in about 45 minutes and are phenomenal!
New French food arrivals: Just in time for Bastille Day, we received a new shipment of French foods last week. Highlights include:
Francine French wheat flour T45 – This all-purpose flour makes superior pastries and desserts
Tesselliere syrups: Elderberry and Blackcurrent flavors. Mix with soda for a refreshing beverage, or use in cocktails!
Benedicta French Mayonnaise
Connétable smoked cod liver with Espelette pepper: NEW! Smoked cod liver is known as the poor man’s foie gras. We now have the regular version, and this new version containing slightly spicy Basque Espelette pepper
French Cookies: Gluten-free Madeleines, lady fingers, and shortbread cookies
Chateau Louriga rose 2019 ($17.99) The weather forecast shows picnic weather on Tuesday. If you’re a rosé lover, we recommend pairing Chateau Louriga with your repast. The gorgeous bottle will enhance your enjoyment of this light and bright pink wine. Enticingly aromatic, it offers up a rich mid-palate with notes of melon and wild berries. Hints of mineral underlie the fruit flavors with a lingering and very dry finish. It’s a classic style of dry French rosé, refreshing and delicious.
