Spanish holiday sweets have arrived! No matter how the rest of this pandemic year unfolds, the holiday tradition of giving and enjoying sweets brings cheer. We’ve got all of your favorite traditional polvorones, mantecados and roscos de vino cookie assortments in stock, many with new beautiful packaging. We’ve also brought in La Mallorquina’s Mantecados from Astorga, the best-known Mantecados in Spain. These cake-like delicacies have been produced since 1916 and are so renowned, they have their own D.O.! We also have La Mallorquina’s tempting puff pastry rounds handcrafted with a sugar icing called Sequellos de Astorga. Pan de Cadiz, a loaf-shaped confection made with mazapan is on the shelf this year along with E. Peces Mazapan Figuritas and gift wrapped assorted Mazapan treats. The contents of these boxes will surely bring on a festive mood!
E. Moreno Turrones, made of almonds, honey, and sugar are also in stock. Our assortment includes Turron Blando (Soft Almond Nougat) and Turron Duro (Brittle-style Almond Nougat). Both styles are available in Extra Quality (200-gram size, 46-50% almonds), and Calidad Suprema (300 grams, made of a whopping 60-64% almonds). The gorgeous round-shaped Tortas Imperiales Duro Turrones are Calidad Suprema containing 62% almonds. We have Turron Yema Tostada, turron made with toasted egg yolk nougat, and Obleas Rellenas, wafers filled with almond cream. The Obleas are sold in 8.8 oz packages or individually.
My favorites holiday confections are here: Peladillos and Piñones, candied almonds, and candied pine nuts made by Pablo Garrigos Ibãnez. The combination of roasted nuts with a touch of crunchy sugar is sublime with a glass of tawny port. Gift these nuts with a bottle of port and make someone feel very special.

Other product arrivals:
El Rulo de Fresca Spanish goat cheese – A pristine white cheese made with creamy goat’s milk from Spain with a chalky rind and a soft, crumbly texture. Fresh tasting with a tang, it is excellent in fresh green salads, on crackers, or use it in a quiche.
La Retorta mini-torta cheeses – Unpasteurized sheep’s milk made with vegetarian rennet. The sheep’s natural diet of herbs including juniper, thyme, and rosemary impart flavors of pasture to the salty, buttery notes. So creamy it is almost liquid. To serve, remove the top rind and scoop out the gooey interior with a cracker or spoon. A World’s Best Spanish Cheese 2017-2018.
Viejo Maestro goat cheese – Made by the family who pioneered Queso Torta del Casar in Extramadura. Viejo Maestro is made with pasteurized goat cheese and thistle rennet, aged 40 days. Semi-soft, sweet, and creamy with an intensely goaty-grassy flavor. It’s a great choice for lovers of goat’s milk cheese! We also have two wheels of the famed Torta del Casar sheep’s milk cheese available.

WINE NEWS:
Xisto Ilimitado Branco 2019, Douro ($25.99) After one taste, we placed a special order for this Portuguese white wine from the Douro Valley. A blend of four Portuguese varietals grown in schist soils at 1600+ feet in altitude. Fermented with native yeast, 90% is aged in neutral oak barrels on lees for one year. Showing the minerality of a Chablis and the richness of a white Burgundy, Xisto Ilimitado offers up salty aromas and toasty notes. Fresh citrus and baked apple flavors are bright and lifted. Very complex, it changes on the palate with air, revealing more layers and a generous density and weight. A finish of slate and mineral leaves the palate refreshed and ready for more. This wine is excellent with poultry or cheeses.
Marques de Murrieta Reserva Rioja 2015 SALE $25.99 (normally $29.99) The traditional-style Rioja wines of Marques de Murrieta have been on an upward trajectory since an ownership change and winery upgrades in 1983 and the 2015 vintage is absolutely gorgeous! Aged 18 months in oak. “Cedar, tobacco, dried cherry, and spice flavors mingle in this red. Features a polished texture, with well-integrated tannins and orange peel acidity. Supple, harmonious, and graceful. Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, and Garnacha.” 92 POINTS, #40, TOP 100 WINES OF 2019 Wine Spectator
