WINE ARRIVALS:
We are thrilled to have Viña Godeval wines back on our shelf!  Made from the Godello varietal which is indigenous to Valdeorras in northwestern Spain, the grape was kept from extinction in the ’70s with the help of Horacio Fernandez Presa.  Commercial bottling of Godello began in 1986 when Horacio established Viña Godeval which was the first winery to export Godello to the United States. Godello is a white grape that makes fresh and bright white wines, richer and weightier than an Albariño from nearby Galicia.
Vina GodevalViña Godeval Godello, Valdeorras 2020 ($19.99) It offers up fresh aromas of ripe white pear. Notes of orchard fruit are rich and ripe, with a lively minerality.  Extremely drinkable on its own, it pairs well with cheese or any type of finfish. This white wine is a mix of younger plantings and older vines with an average of 25 years old, grown at an altitude of 500 meters on pure slate soils. The grapes are fermented using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, aged 6 months with no malolactic fermentation.
Viña Godeval Godello Cepas Vellas, Valdeorras 2019 ($25.99)  The old vine Godeval is simply spectacular. Sleek and lithe, the vibrant freshness is captivating. With notes of seashell, ripe white fruit, and citrus notes, it offers up tension and focus. Bright and lifted with pervasive minerality this is a richly layered wine with a delicious and lengthy dry finish. This wine cries out for oysters or any other type of shellfish.  Made from the estate’s oldest vineyards averaging 50 years of age, grown on pure slate soils at 500 meters elevation. Fermented with native yeasts and aged on lees in stainless steel for 5 months.
