Guigal, this is the second wine from Saintes Pierres de Nalys but made with the same winemaking team as their top cuvée. Aged in stainless steel and foudre, this wine is elegant, full-bodied and balanced. Delivers finesse,with hints of licorice and tar. Notes of mineral and spice offer complexity on the on lengthy finish. This is really delicious!
Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin Bourgogne rouge 2016 ($72.00) Classic. A polished red, this delivers cherry, strawberry, rose and spice aromas and flavors. Balanced and vibrant, ending with a mouthwatering aftertaste. This shows a wealth of pure fruit and freshness with wonderful aromatics. 92 points Wine Spectator
Clos du Marquis Saint-Julien Bordeaux 2008 ($87.00) Here at Paris-Madrid Grocery, we’re big fans of beautifully aged wines and Clos du Marquis is one of our favorites. 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, picked at full ripeness. The fruit notes are captivating, with a sleek and silky mouthfeel. It offers up bright acidity and freshness with an explosion of mineral. Great balance with firm tannins. Best if decanted for 1 hour before serving. This is a fabulous Saint-Julien.
And to finish the meal, serve an excellent port: Casa Santa Eufémia Special Reserve White Port SALE! (now $56.00, regular price $79.00). Founded in 1894, Casa Santa Eufémia’s ports are all made from estate grapes, which is unusual for port producers who typically buy their grapes from other growers. The Special Reserve is a 30 year white port, with aromas that are intensely nutty and incredibly enticing. On the palate, it is rich, smooth and lucscious. Complex layers of vanilla, dried fruit, caramel, roasted walnuts and spice have a concentrated weightiness on the palate.
