Just in time for warm weather, we’ve received these 2022 French roses:
Cicada’s Song Rosé, 2022 IGP Var-Provence ($19.99) This certified organic rosé is an innovative blend of 75% Tibouren & 25% Rolle. Very bright with floral aromas, notes of red berries and melon. A touch of herbs and white pepper on the finish gives a savory complexity and invigorating snap. It was terrific with grilled halibut the other night! The grapes in Cicada’s Song include Tibouren, an ancient Provençal rarity with a genuine scent of the garrigue, the herby scrub of southern France. DNA analysis has shown it is the same grape as Liguria’s Rossese di Dolceacqua. (JancisRobinson.com) Rolle is another name for Vermentino, a white grape.
Domaine de Châteaumar Côtes-du-Rhône Perle de Rosé ($18.99). A favorite rosado here at Paris-Madrid Grocery, it’s a blend of 90% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. A touch more robust than a Provence rosé, it shows a weighty freshness on the palate. Offers up complex notes of berries and a hint of peaches, with a faintly earthy base. Excellent with grilled foods, such as burgers or spicy sausages. Check out Paris-Madrid Grocery’s large assortment of grilling sausages and meats to pair with this rose!
Winemaker Nathalie Coquelle makes the following two wines. La Cuvee is her second wine, showing a lighter style. Her top wine from Château des Annibals is a benchmark rosé, with tremendous complexity and depth. It’s a little confusing to tell them apart as the labels are quite similiar!
Domaine des Annibals La Cuvée des Annibals IGP Var 2022 ($20.99) With a gray elephant on the label, this wine comes from just outside Provence’s AOP, with a flavor profile that is pure Southern France. Floral aromas are delicate and enticing; on the palate there are hints of peach and tropical notes. Very mineral focused, this is a great sipper on a sunny day. Certified organic.
Château des Annibals Rosé Suivez-moi-jeunne-homme, Coteaux Varois en Provence ($24.99) Also certified organic, this wine has a gold elephant on the label. A depth of of aromas on the nose including raspberry, citrus, mint. With rich flavors of strawberries, a crystalline minerality lends freshness to this superb and legendary rosé, which is the oldest winery in the appellation. The winery is entirely wind and solar-powered.
Enjoy our warm weather this weekend!
