The 4th of July is right around the corner and it’s predicted to be warm and sunny. Paris-Madrid Grocery will be open from 10 AM – 4 PM on July 4th, so stop in for last-minute paella ingredients, wine, beer, and grilling meats.
It will be hot, so pick up cold Spanish Gazpacho or Salmorejo (similiar to Gazpacho) from our refrigerator case, chilled sparkling mineral water, or Spanish beer. We’ve also got a tremendous selection of 2022 Rosé wines from Spain and France, including Bodegas Muga Rosado 2022 ($16.99). The 2022 vintage of Muga rosado is fresh and rich, with complex, mineral-laden notes of watermelon and cherry. You can taste it Friday June 30 from 2-5:30 p.m.
Delicious Neveu Sancerre Le Grand Fricambault 2022 ($30.00) is in stock! This is notable because in 2021 there was frost, mildew and storms in AOC Sancerre, presenting many challenges for winegrowers, reducing yields by about 50%. Many of our favorite Sancerres are already sold out for the season. Fricambault is stunningly fresh and rich, with citrus and mouth-filling minerality. Serve this crisp and mineral-laden white wine with shellfish or finfish. Also you can get a taste of it tomorrow, Friday 30 from 2-5:30 p.m. It will do a great job cooling you off over the July 4th holiday, accompanied by seafood paella.
Check out the fantastic line up for tomorrow’s Try-To-Buy Wine sampling from 2-5:30 p.m. Each Friday, we open 3 bottles of wine for customers to taste before buying. Tomorrow, we’ll have Muga Rose 2022, Neveu Sancerre Le Grand Fricambault 2022 (above), and Lanciano Rioja Reserva 2016. Stop in and get some wine for the weekend!
Cheese Sale: We received too much Tetilla cheese! Normally it sells for $16.99 per lb., but now it’s now on sale at $13.99 per lb, Buy a whole wheel (approximately 2 pounds), and take an additional 10% off! Buttery, slightly piquant and a bit tangy, this otherwise mild cheese is made of cow’s milk cheese. Alluringly shaped, it has little to no rind and a creamy, dense texture. Excellent with quince paste and almonds, or make a melted cheese sandwich with it.
WINE CORNER
Domaine de Reuilly Rosé Pinot Gris 2022, Loire Valley ($25.99) Pale, dry, crisp, and refreshing, this phenomenal rosé is bright and steely. With an intriguing, delicious varietal character it is made almost completely by Denis Jamain, owner, vigneron and oenologist. Grapes for this wine come from a 2 hectare plot in the heart of AOC Reuilly. The soils here are rich, resting on the prized Kimmeridgian limestone, a geological chain that connects the Loire Valley with Chablis in Burgundy. Aged in stainless steel, certified biodynamic farming.
Domaine de Reuilly Les Pierres Plates Sauvignon Blanc, Loire Valley 2022 ($25.99) Looking for a wine that is sleek and lean, delivering a chiseled frame with hints of crushed rock and citrus? If yes, you will love Les Pierre Plates! You might do a double take after your first sip of this mouthwatering blanc from Domaine de Reuilly and wonder, “Is this Chablis?” It is not Chardonnay from Chablis, but Sauvignon Blanc from the eastern slice of the Loire region! Les Pierres Plates are the flat stones filled with fossilized shells from the Kimmeridgian period, when France was covered by ocean. Where you find this soil in Chablis, parts of Champagne and Reuilly, you also find bone-dry, flinty, almost saline wines that are the soulmates of shellfish. (Kermit Lynch website) Certified biodynamic,.
Fedellos Conasbrancas Blanco, Ribera Sacra Galicia 2021 ($36.00) A limited production wine from miniscule and remote vineyards is really terrific. Made from a field blend of native varieties from 60-80 year old vines. The high elevation vineyards (700 meters) are planted on terraces along the sheer slopes above the rivers Sil and Bibei with soils of decomposed granite, schist and sand. The nose is floral and saline, with a little spice and hints of pollen and beeswax. The palate is marked by vibrant acidity, a weighty mouthfeel and plenty of minerality. It improves and gets more focused in the glass, developing more floral aromas. Complex and intriguing, this is a dry wine that pairs wonderfully with rich seafood dishes or poultry. Grapes: Dona Blanca, Godello, Albariño, Treixadura, Lado, & Torrontes, fermented for 28 day maceration on the skins, then fermented in tank with native yeast. Aged in used barrels, and 500l demi-muids for 12 months with no battonage. Bottled unfined, and unfiltered, this is a vegan wine.
