La Bourgeoise SancerreHenri Bourgeois Sancerre “La Bourgeoise” 2020 ($34.99)  “Concentrated and harmonious, with melon, nectarine, gooseberry and lemon curd layered with green herbs and an intense salty spine. A subtle hint of honey adds richness, and a toasted almond note rounds out the lengthy finish. Delicious. Drink now through 2028.”   93 points Wine Spectator     100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from four plots of very old organically farmed vines that sit on flinty soil. These specific plots were worked by monks for centuries, the monks called the plots “Les Bourgeoises,” which is the reason for the name here. If you are looking for a deep, powerful, flinty example of Sauvignon made in a contemporary style it is hard to find something more compelling than this in the category.

ConasbrancasFEDELLOS CONASBRANCAS BLANCO RIBERA SACRA 2021 ($36.00) White wines from Ribera Sacra are rare and compelling; the richness and lift of Conasbrancas make it a wonderful match for rich seafood dishes or poultry.  Floral and saline aromas have hints of spice, pollen, and beeswax.  With vibrant acidity, and a weighty, mineral-laden mouthfeel, this is a wonderfully complex and dry white wine. It becomes more focused with air, developing delicate white floral aromas.  A field blend of native varieties (Dona Blanca, Godello, Albariño, Treixadura, Lado, Torrontes) from 60 to 80-year-old vines, it is fermented with native yeast and aged in used barrels for 12 months.  The high-elevation vineyards (700 meters) are planted on terraces along the sheer slopes above the rivers Sil and Bibei with soils of decomposed granite, schist, and sand. Very limited production. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.  Vegan wine.

Prieure Chenas GranitLes Caves du Prieuré Chénas Rouge Terroir de Granit 2022 Cru Beaujolais ($24.99)  Beaujolais wines pair wonderfully with turkey!  This 100% Gamay is lightweight and fresh, and with only 12.5% alcohol, it’s perfect for sipping in the afternoon.  Violet aromas with black cherry fruit flavors have hints of spice.  Savory notes and a mineral finish bring you back for another glass.

Sketch AlbarinoRaul Perez Sketch Albariño 2021, Rias Baixas ($99.00)  “The nose is plethoric and expressive. This comes from one single vineyard with a strong sea influence (you see the sea from the vineyard), straight, vertical, marine, with notes of iodine and seashells, with citrus acidity and very tasty flavors. It’s sharp, austere and vibrant. It has purity and delineation, and it’s clean and precise like a laser cut.”

Numanthia Toro, 2006 ($50.00)  “A brooding bouquet of wood smoke, Asian spices, violets, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, rich, powerful, and incipiently complex, it will offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2026. Bodegas Numanthia-Termes was sold by the Eguren family to Moet-Hennessey prior to the 2006 vintage. What this might ultimately mean for quality or style of the wine remains to be seen but there is no questioning the performance of the 2006 and 2007 vintages.”  100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) from pre-phylloxera vines, 50-100 years old, aged18 months new French oak, unfined unfiltered.   94+ points Wine Advocate
