Wine Tasting of a Final Release: $15 a bottle through Sunday, January 18th .

Wine maker and Rhone visionary, Dan Kravitz, wanted to finally retire this year at the age of 79. To do so, he needed to clear out his cellars to close down his business in France. In stepped one of our importers who purchased the lot at close-out prices which we’re passing on to you! Domaine Cabirau 2019 Maury Sec Serge & Marie is gorgeous, showing just the right amount of bottle age character, and able to cellar another six years. At this price, we think it’s the perfect selection to stock up on. Made up of 70% grenache, 20% carignan, and 10% syrah, this silky-textured wine offers flavors of ripe blackberry, peppery herbs, and solid minerality. Normally offered at $17-$20, we’ll have it on sale at $15 a bottle through Sunday. And as always, buy any six or more bottles in the shop and you’ll get an additional  10% off. We have eight cases, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

We’ll be sampling this lovely wine (and a couple of others…) this Saturday, January 17th, 2pm-4pm. Hope to see you then.

French Butter

We know you love a Comté or Triple Crème cheese from France, but have you tried French butter? Produced predominantly in northwestern France in the regions of Normandy and Brittany, it has the flavor of its terroir churned into it. For example the Isigny St. Mère brand represents a co-operative of 380 small farms whose dairy cows graze on fresh grass in Normandy for a minimum of 70% of their feed. This fresh grass grows in pastures of marine-based soils resulting in grass that is naturally rich in mineral salts, beta carotene, and iodine. Or the Rudolphe Meurnier butter that is cultured, curned in a wooden vat, salted with fleur de sel from Ile de Ré, and hand formed with the silhouette of a cow. We recommend enjoying salted French butter simply on toast or a baguette. We also carry unsalted French butter in sheets for making  croissant dough or puff pastry as well as in blocks or logs for baking or spreading.
